The Glass Menagerie

Glass

Just finished this little gem in between the endless piles of laundry. It's amazing to me how much filth accumulates in the midst of the stomach flu. Let's just say it will take the greater part of this week to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I was reading Jacqueline Moses' blog a few days ago and what she said resonates with me.. it's something I say and I feel almost every day : "I kind of feel myself growing dumber.." Homeschooling has helped. I'm learning to add single digits again and Hooked on Phonics is working for me.  But I miss reading. I LOVE to read. I love the classics and I miss them. I find something new and inspirational almost every time I re-read a work. It's undoubtedly because I'm in a different stage of life each time I revisit a classic. The Catcher in the Rye meant something entirely different to me in my teenage years than it does now. I found this little nugget from Tennessee WIlliams that I must have overlooked before.. Probably because I wasn't chasing after time, desperately pleading with it to slow down for me…
"In the time of your life- Live!  That time is short and it doesn't return again. It is slipping away while I write this and you read it, and the monosyllable of the clock is loss, loss, loss unless you devote your heart to it's opposition."

And here's another little pearl for you. I've always thought this, but listen to how eloquently he writes it.  Speaking of Memory, he explains.
"Memory takes a lot of poetic license. It omits some details; others are exaggerated, according to emotional value of the articles it touches, for memory is seated predominantly in the heart."

Ahhh. I feel a little smarter today. Time to clean the toilets 🙂
